Week 3 MVP - Ryan Miller come on down!!

Week three’s MVP is Ryan Miller.  Ryan is a first year player making a major impact on the league-leading Muchos Grassyass.  His callahan last week stood out from the other great performances around the league.  What is a callahan you ask?  A callhan is when a player intercepts the disc in the opponent’s end zone for an automatic score.  Watch a video here (No, it’s not Ryan in the video but I’m imagining his was probably pretty awesome too).

Honorable Mentions:

Dan Chappell.  From Dan’s captain - Dan had an amazing night, really stepping it up in both games, but especially in game two when he inspired us all with a turnaround point in which he had a huge D, followed by a sprint down the field and sweet layout catch in the end zone for a score to tie the game.  From that point on, there was no stopping us... until the other team won.  :(

Mark Van Gerwen.  Though Mark would never nominate himself, his impact on last week’s game was abundantly clear.  Before Mark’s late arrival the Ugly Hucklings had been outscored 13-7 on the night.  Mark arrived early in the second game and entered with the score tied at 2 apiece.  He promptly made a game-changing mud-slinging layout D that sparked his team to a 9-5 run and the win.  When asked how he felt about turning his team’s fortunes around Mark sternly replied, “I just didn’t want to be outplayed by Christy.”

Nirmal "the Flash" Choradia for his lightning fast moves down the field, popping up exactly wherever the other team didn't want him to be, shutting down their poppers, intercepting their throws, and generally smoking all of their guys.  The other teams were impressed!!!

Brandon Bates. **Breaking News**  Actual quote from an opposing captain: “We'd actually like to nominate Brandon Bates for a night of exceptional plays and surprisingly good sportsmanship.  It helped make for an intense but enjoyable game.”....I promise I didn’t make that up.

Spencer Davis.  He stepped up and played above and beyond his usual standards.

Evan Thomas for his willingness to sacrifice his body including the use of his face to make a defensive play and then multiple layout catches for scores, including one to end the first game.

Andrew Butler.   From Andrew’s captain - He is always a solid player with great spirit, but tonight in our second game he outdid himself.  He made some phenomenal catches while being contacted by the opposing team.  He was knocked around and knocked down and still caught the disc.  He took an elbow or knee to the neck on one play.  Got up, shook it off and after taking a moment, completed a pass.  Turned right around on the next possession and made a huge "D" on the opponent's goal line as they were about to score.

Other players getting some love:

Jorge Pino, Dan Chappell, Stephen Rhea, Jimbo Tucker, Justin Thigpen, Mary Beth Brown, Ashley Brooks, Christy Dettmer, Richard Phillips, and Mary McWhirter.

MVP - What's better than ice cream?

What's better than getting ice cream?.....being MVP and getting ice cream from Dairy Queen!

That's right, each week beginning this week BUDA will be crowning a weekly MVP.  The MVP will enjoy all of the fame and glory that comes from being featured here on the BUDA blog as well as winning a Blizzard or other yummy dessert from Dairy Queen!!  (The Brownie Batter Blizzard is the Blizzard of the Month for those you who were wondering)

How to win:  Captains will send a short paragraph highlighting one player from their team or an opposing team or telling the story of something that happened during the games and why that player should be the week's MVP.  MVP's will be announced here on the blog and the best nominations will be posted each week.

If anyone takes pictures or videos before, during, or after the games, I can certainly post some of those here on the blog.  Pictures of anybody jumping over Jay Pigford and winning the disc are automatic MVP winners.

Special Shout-Out to Hesston (4-0) for providing the DQ gift cards.

See ya'll on the field,
Scottie
