Winter League Recap

Since Winslett was absent Saturday afternoon (his son turned two and he made the better decision to forego our heckling to spend time with the fam) I’ll try to recap for those not present in body or mind.....

The pre-semis pitted Club Royale against Blue-Footed Boobies and Greener Weiner against Double Stuffed. The top seeds from pool play – Black and Purple – had a bye (genius move!).

The boobies and weiner prevailed to reach the semis and face the two powerhouses from the regular season.

Grapes of Wrath had eecked out a win against the boobies earlier in the day at eastlake, but the tide turned and the blues came out on top with tenacious defense and steady churning of the disc into the endzone.

Black Liquorish defeated the weiners ina contest that I did not see any of...so no report or heckle there.

The finals were assumed a foregone conclusion by a lot of the crowd but the Boobies (backed by a raucous heckling crowd) had their own ideas. Going up early Black took half 8-5. The boobies gained steam as Scottie Stone’s huck was stuffed by Will Marble’s collarbone on his 38th layout of the game. The game stayed within a couple points and the boobies were able to pull within one at game point 14-13, but Black prevailed 15-13.

Congrats to both teams for a well-played finals that provided a lot of heckling opportunities.

Kudos to Big Country, Chris Winslett, for a smooth-sailing Winter League. We’re all looking forward to Summer League!!!

End of Winter 2008

EOW 2008 will be this Saturday at Eastlake and Wahoma (Jan 24th). Play will start at 8:30. And we will have Spaghetti for lunch.

An EOW schedule will be out by Wednesday, so check back then.
