BUDA - Volunteer of the Year

Last Thursday, Cahaba River Society presented BUDA with their
Volunteer of the Year Award for creating the Huckraiser Tournament!
Jay Pigford, Beth Sheets, and Brad Sparks attended the CRS Annual
Meeting and accepted the award.

The Huckraiser raised money to support the Shane Hulsey CLEAN
Environmental Education Program. CLEAN (Children Linking with the
Environment Across the Nation) is an innovative program offering
students hands-on environmental education activities while safely
participating in a canoe trip or stream walk in the Cahaba River
watershed. The Cahaba River Society has compiled an interdisciplinary
field and classroom curriculum tailored to local water resources to
encourage critical thinking among students to help them make informed
decisions about water resource issues.

The Huckraiser also introduced the ultimate community to the Cahaba
River Society's mission to protect and restore the Cahaba River, which
supplies half of Birmingham residents with clean drinking water. To
learn more about CRS, please visit their website. www.

BUDA has tentatively planned the next Huckrasier Tournament for this
October. Plan to come out and have fun while supporting the work
Cahaba River Society is doing for one of the nation's most
biologically diverse rivers!

Yeah! Not only is BUDA a great organization for ultimate, it's pretty damn handy with our community as well. Congrats.
