TANG IT!!
Winter League Champions!

Cold. Wet. Muddy. Those three words pretty much sum up our saturday at EOW. But one team didn't care about any of that as they rose to the top winning five straight games to clinch the Winter League Title. Eight Ballin' and Arm & Hammer held seed and rose out of Pool A while Tang IT and Cap'n Murph's Wenches took the 1 and 2 seeds out of Pool A.

After a bit of pizza and a pbr refresher, Tang It faced off with Arm&Hammer in the semis on Field One. Tang It got to an early lead but A&H would bring it back close until Tang took half. Tang stuck to their zone defense and it paid off in the second half forcing turnovers on impatient throws while Tang steadily worked it down the field. Tang finished off Arm in a capped game to advance to the finals. On Field Two Eight Ballin' had its way with Cap'n Murph's Wenches 13-6.

A pregame ceremony of sorts honored Steve Millburg who has exemplified the BUDA leadership principles (or rather far exceeded them!). BUDA presented Steve with a gift certificate to Bottega for his efforts over the years in furthering BUDA's civic involvement and forming strong bonds with various parks and rec organizations solidifying BUDA's network of supporters in the community.

Finals pitted number one seed Eight Ballin', captained by Brian Loynachan and Ashley Brooks, and number two seed Tang It, captained by Lea Anne Williams and Jay Pigford, in a game that would have been played a week earlier had the rain not canceled the last week of the regular season. Early on 8Ball took control taking a 3-1 lead. Tang brought it back close before 8Ball scored three in a row to take half 7-5. Tang was playing zone while 8Ball used their speed and matched up in man defense. The Tang cup had trouble containing the disc and it repeatedly cut through the cup and then quickly up field for score after score. Having made many comeback runs during the season to win games, Tang was no stranger to this zip code. The pep talk paid off as Tang came out to tie up the game 7-7. Tang then took the lead 8-7 as their zone tightened up and got the turns. 8Ball took care of business on the next point and then got two breaks making it 10-8. Tang returned the favor as they began to figure out the cup D - shutting down the dump passes forced errant throws upfield. Score 10-10. The next few points are blurry as the kegs got lighter and the end got nearer. Next thing everyone knew the score was knotted at 12's win by two hard to 15. Tang calls a timeout to have a rest before the last push. They talk it over in the huddle what to do on D and the decision is made to keep the disc out of Gray's hands at all costs, even on the dump. Force 8Ball to throw it up field and into the wing defenders. Tang received and worked it down to score to make it 13-12. On the ensuing point Tang set its zone cup very tight making every swing and dump pass very difficult. The wings began to pinch in to the middle anticipating the up the gut throw and sure enough Lea Anne slaps down a D in the middle giving Tang a chance to win the game from 20 yards out. An errant throw to the endzone leaves the disc in 8Ball's hands again, but again the Tang cup clamped down on the handlers, this time on their own goal-line. As the dump is denied again and again the count gets high and a desperation dump floats helplessly to the mud for a turnover. Tang it walks the disc to the goal-line and Jesse Touchstone makes a slashing cut to the corner for the winning score. Tang It wins 14-12!!

Great game by all. Great spirit.

Get ready for mudbowl and summer league coming soon.......
