MIDSUMMER MADNESS

Bienvenu BUDA,

The MidSummer Tournament went out with a bang this year! Congrats to Grite for taking the cake, beating Mustachio Pistachio 13-9.

Grite fought through the ranks, beating Toxic Sushi in the quarters and Brian's Fire in the semis. Mustachio dominated the Red Rockets and Giang's Last Stand to land in the final game.

In the final matchup, Jimbo Tucker made a monumental layout D, landing in bounds by the very skin of his toenails. A huge layout-D response was brought by Ben Pendergrass of Mustachio to steal some momentum from Grite. In the end, Grite took the game and reserved a spot as Mid-Summer Champions. Mustachio Pistachio reserves a spot for BEST TEAM NAME EVER.

Thanks to all who volunteered to help out with the weekend. Shout outs to:

  • Hoa for delivering the kegs to the fields!
  • Steve Millburg for supplying cones and helping with setup/take-down
  • Annie Mayhew for post-finals cleanup and lost-and-found management
  • Jay Pigford for organizing and fronting the money for your Saturday eats
  • Cory, Chris, Elizabeth, and Megan for waking up super early and helping set-up.
  • Paul, Brad, and everyone else at the camper for getting super drunk and supplying entertainment to the worker-bees.
  • Anonymous Pranksters for putting duct-tape on Cory's tires. I have a wonderful scrape on my knuckles which was well worth it for the opportunity to peel tar-covered tape from the tires on the side of the highway.
  • Gwen for taking excellent pictures! View them HERE (You'll need a Snapfish account)
  • EVERYONE in this organization for showing up, playing with spirit, and helping make this tournament a blast all around.

Note:

There are no games this Thursday due to July 4th weekend. Games commence next Thursday, July 10th.

Discs will be ready in 3 to 4 weeks.

Go to Sauce on the Side and look at my bombtastic t-shirts.

If you have other finals highlights you'd like mentioned in this post, you can email me at meroth3@gmail.com.

ULTIMATE!

Thank you for another fun Saturday at Talladega all officers and volunteers!

Toxic is looking forward to a rematch against Grite, except next time with no AWOL cell phones, our full roster present and no guzzled beer and pizza prior to quarterfinals. There will be (more) blood!

Did anyone find a Santa Barbara Middle School disc with the initials M.P. on the back? If so I would love to get it back.

I was one of the last people at the fields on Saturday and here is what I found and brought home.

1 Quick Shade Instant Canopy large, black tent bag

1 child's sized chair believed to belong to Jay's son

1 red chair in a green chair bag
(claimed by Mike M.)

1 blue Igloo water cooler jug 1 qt size

1 20th Annual City Stages bright green foam Koozie

1 disc with no name

1 Ric Sjostrom disc

Had a Will Newton disc (and he wasn't even there) but I think it got put in another car

When I added these items to my Lost and Found area of my garage, I found:

1 Brian Brown disc

1 Chris / vaill99@hotmail disc

I thought everything was great, but would have been better if BUDA could have provided some water for players that don't know any better about bringing fluids to such tournaments.

That's a very good idea. Does anyone out there have those giant water coolers? If so, we could get a few together for community water at EOS. It would be a great way to cut down on the waste involved with hundreds of plastic water bottles.

Keep up the suggestions, everybody. Constructive ideas are excellent. Even from Spike!

had an amazing wonderful time! You all did a Fab job! Only suggestion is to maybe avoid using the field that we (Hucky Charms) played on in pool play....it was about a death trap. Lots of rolled/sprained ankles in the minefield...=[

BUDA had many, many very large water coolers in the storage that we had for years. We got them out for Mud Bowl and Corporate Mud Bowl every year. Used to fill 1/2 of them up with water and the rest up with Gatorade or Powerade powder mixed with water.
They should be somewhere if they aren't still in storage.

Might want to think about those for Corp MB on July 12th and End of Summer tourney.

Good to know! I'll ask around and see if we can use those at EOS.

Also, there has been talk of an End of Summer party...perhaps we could all get together somewhere after the midsummer tournament. Any ideas?

Talk to Gray. We may be able to have it at the Rec Fields at Alabama. Party at Mellow Mushroom after play. He said something about this at Mid summer.
